Percy Pobble went on a winter walk today. It is still very cold at Pobble Path, but it was nice to get some exercise. When he was outside he saw a groundhog. That reminded him that this is the time of year when the groundhog comes out to see his shadow. If the groundhog sees his shadow then the Pobbles believe there will be six more weeks of winter. If the groundhog does not see his shadow, then there will be an early spring.
Percy isn’t sure if the old Groundhog Day legend is true, but he thinks it is fun. The Pobbles all meet down at the center of Pobble Path and wait for the groundhog that lives there to come out of his hole. Some of the Pobbles hope for a longer winter and some wish for an early spring, but they all have fun visiting together while they wait. Finally, the sleepy groundhog pokes his head out and takes a look around. Then everyone at Pobble Path gets the answer and lets out a cheer.
Percy likes Groundhog Day and he likes looking for animals when he goes on his walks. Today he saw five different kinds of animals and drew pictures of them. He also drew pictures of their shadows since it is Groundhog Day. Can you match each animal to its shadow? Ask a grown up to print off the shadow sheet and draw a line from the animal to its shadow.
